Once you recycle and compost everything that you can in the blue and green carts, there shouldn't be much left for the black Garbage Cart!

Visit Recology's Hard to Recycle page for suggestions on items that are not accepted for recycling in our CartSMART curbside program but we would like to keep out of the landfill.

You CAN Put These in the Garbage

Acceptable Items:

  • Animal waste (bagged)
  • Black plastic
  • Bubble wrap
  • Cat litter
  • Ceramics
  • Clothing & linens
  • Coat hangers
  • Diapers
  • Dishware & glassware
  • Foil-backed & plastic-backed paper
  • Glass mirrors & windows
  • Incandescent light bulbs
  • Juice or soy milk type boxes with foil liners
  • Pens & pencils
  • Plastic bags, film & wrappers
  • Rubber bands
  • Snack bags & wrappers
  • Styrofoam

Please, NO:

  • Batteries & cell phones
  • Fluorescent lights, tubes & CFLs
  • Household hazardous waste
  • Liquids
  • Medicines
  • Motor oil & oil filters
  • Sharps
  • TVs, computers, music players & other electronics
