Compost Giveaways

Several times each year, RethinkWaste teams up with its member communities  to give away compost. The compost is made from yard trimmings collected at the curb from communities every other week, and composted at a nearby composting facility. The compost is ideally used as an amendment to enrich soil for lawns, gardens, ornamental plants, trees, and potted plants. By applying compost to landscaping and mixing it with soil, people put organic resources into the soil, providing a non-chemical alternative to fertilizers.

Residents in participating communities may take up to 1 cubic yard of compost (about six full garbage cans) at no charge at select locations as long as supplies last. Citizens bring shovels, gloves, containers, and proof of residency, and leave with rich compost for their gardens.

Recology San Mateo County will also team up with Member Agencies and host a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bucket) day.  Residents can take one bucket full of compost and learn about the benefits of home composting.
