FREE Compost Giveaways (Click Here for Locations)

RethinkWaste will team up with its member communities and Recology San Mateo County Annually for "Bring Your Own Bucket", or "BYOB" days to give away nutrient rich compost. Residents are welcome to take home a free bucket of compost to help enrich their gardens while learning about the benefits of home composting.   The compost is made from the yard waste trimmings and food scraps collected at the curb from communities every week, and composted at a nearby composting facility. The compost is ideally used as an amendment to enrich soil for lawns, gardens, ornamental plants, trees, and potted plants. By applying compost to landscaping and mixing it with soil, people put organic resources into the soil, providing a non-chemical alternative to fertilizers. Citizens bring shovels, gloves, containers, and proof of residency, and leave with rich compost for their gardens.
